We left Janine and JJ's at around 5:00, had a nice trip through the Columbia River Gorge then endured through what was left of Washington State before leaving for the greener pastures of Hwy 2 in Idaho and Montana.
We had intended to make it to Kalispell but stopped in Libby instead, where I was violently ill for much of the night.
The next day I had recovered (mostly) so we were still going to try to hike in Glacier and then either stay a night or drive through depending opon how I felt. But the drive through Glacier took much longer than we had hoped (lots of closures to one lane on the Going to the Sun Highway) and we discovered that one tire was pretty low on tread. So we decided to skip the hike and just make a few short stops. Maybe next time.
In the end, we did decide to drive through the night, stopping in Great Falls first for decent sit-down dinner.
In the middle of the night I was opressed by hundreds of deer along the two lane highway we were taking across Montana between Great Falls and I-94. Twice I had to slam on my thankfully ABS break from 70 miles/hr to avoid hitting them. It was quite the white knuckle experience and like nothing I've ever seen before.
The next day we crossed North Dakota and Minnesota and made it home around 7:00.

I got sad when I saw the "final slideshow" It was great beyond words to have you here. We miss you so much.
You have to watch those deer. They are nothing but trouble hiding behind stupid looking eyes.
Oh, Jodi! You and those innocent deer! I thought of you yesterday when Dad was telling me about the razorbacks (wild pigs) that live in the woods around here. I think I'd rather take my chances with the deer.
Jon and Jen, so thankful you 'missed' the deer and had a safe trip home. Don't you just love the color of the water in the Glacier rivers? Makes me want to see Alaska.
Deer are just large urban vermin now. They're all over the place. Bring back the Timberwolf.
They ARE bringing back the wolves here in Oregon. They're introducing packs of them back into the wild and they're officially off the "endangered species" list here. Yes, the deer are a bit great in number. Jodi, you are too funny.
