Thinking About...

... whether or not the word 'evangelical' isn't perhaps wearing itself out, starting to feel, as Bilbo would put it, "like ... butter scraped over too much bread."

I don't know who means what about it anymore.

Well, I certainly hesitate to call myself one due to certain "evangelicals" out there.

Hmmmm..... . So how has Jesus, the Christ, 'felt' about the term Christian over the centuries?

MM,
That's a good point and I think spot on. "Evangelical" has become as broad as "Christian" in it's meaning...leaving us having to redefine and further explain ourselves when we identify with either term.

But no matter what label we fall under (which is perhaps unavoidable?) the judge of our beliefs should come from our actions and our lives.

**amendment**

I don't really mean that "Evangelical" has become as broad as "Christian."

Indeed, it is still a "subcategory" if you will.

Why do we like boxes and categories so much?!

"The End of Christian America"and

"Faith Beyond His Fathers"as well as the post at Internetmonk.com that generated my own "Thinking About..."
