Though he was down 2 pounds after yesterday's six matches, Dietrich got first-quarter pins in his quarterfinal and semifinal matches to set up a rematch of last year's 75# championship and a close loss in the first match of this season.
Here's a little clip from the quarterfinal for a warm up first, though:
Then after waiting for all the wrestle backs to finish it was time for the big one.
Dietrich's opponent has not lost in the NSPL for 2 years.
He's a seventh grader with dangerous upper body strength and a wrestling legacy.
Dietrich's three previous matches against him were 4-8, 5-8, and 6-8 losses.
(The camera work is a little shaky here and you get a decent shot of Jen in the background ... but thanks to Anna for shooting it so we've got something to post! We might have a better quality video later.)

So in the end ... Dietrich pulled it off!
And now he has this to show for it: a T-shirt, a medal, a tournament bracket, a seriously bloody lip, a sore back that's going to need some rest, bragging rights for a year and a grin from ear to ear!

Way to go, Dietrich!!!
I'm so excited I have tears in my eyes! Way to persevere, Dietrich. Did those last 45 seconds seem like the longest in your life? Anna, thanks for the video.
Jan,
I might be the one who needs blood pressure meds before Dietrich is done with wrestling! It's a good thing Jon wasn't sitting by me. I was shouting for all I was worth!
YEA!!! Congratulations Dietrich!!!!
wow...that was fantastic to watch! awesome job. Poor Jen..how many years do you have left of this?? worse than football I say.
Actually, I love it!
You're right, though, Ang ... it's WAY more intense than football. And I know you know how intense football was for me.
great to see the mom in the stands screaming for all she is worth. Someone to fill my shoes at last, though i may have to come and watch if i go through wrestling withdrawal!!
Charlene
