While we were out in California (East Bay) Dietrich and I took several early morning photography trips (some representative photos coming). One morning we drove out through Tracy towards the sloughs that meander towards the ocean West of Stockton. As we drove by some of the more run down houses with yards full of old cars, broken down outbuildings, poorly kept animal pens, and peacocks in the trees, Dietrich (who hasn't ever really seen any rural poverty) remarked, "This place reminds me of "Desolation Row." (
song) (
lyrics) I thought it was a pretty good obeservation on
several levels and one of the things I
love about the Central Valley.
